The Art of Lighting with Paviom
The latest innovation from Paviom is the highly sculptured and visually striking Strobilus pendant. Designed by Jonathan Coles, the Strobilus takes inspiration from the open pine cone and utilises 100 leaves made from 100% recycled paper pulp mounted on a recyclable body. The overall effect is a soft and organic shape that creates a warm and pleasing ambience.
Drawn from nature itself, the instantly eye catching Strobilus pendant has a strong organic and textured feel. The design of the light is such that it eliminates glare from all angles with its carefully positioned leaves and the pendant appears to glow warmly with a diffused light.
Measuring 1050mm in height and 895mm in width the Strobilus is an ideal architectural pendant for large atrium spaces. Available in two standard finishes: natural paper pulp and pure white, the Strobilus pendant can be produced in bespoke colours using natural dyes on request.
"Strobilus represents a fascination with paper pulp as a material, a commitment to new technology and the realisation of a challenging, ‘green’ design brief," commented designer, Jonathan Coles.
With a strong environmental focus - the Strobilus pendant is made from 100% recycled materials, is 95% recyclable in weight and uses an energy efficient light source providing 15,000 hours average life.
Though normally used in the packaging industry Paviom has developed a way to use the process for lighting products with natural waterproofing and fire agents added to the pulp without affecting its recyclability. This produces strong yet flexible moulded parts in a range of paper colours.
"The Strobilus blurs the lines between architectural lighting and light art and provides a statement pendant for interior areas to, quite literally, bring the outside in," said Mervyn Carter, UK Sales & Marketing Manager at Paviom.
