Aptus

Aptus is an illuminated, sculptural bollard designed by the international award-winning product designer, Terence Woodgate.

Inspired by the work of Spanish sculptor Eduardo Chillida, Terence uses the aesthetic of a partial cut to bend the Aptus light head up from the body. Although available in different finishes, the Cor-Ten steel version changes appearance as it weathers. On a dry sunny day, it is brightly oxidized, almost orange, and on a wet day it is dark and mellow.

Configurations include single or double width versions with down and up lighting options. With its natural finish and light configurations, Aptus will suit a variety of landscape applications.

Materials

Cor-Ten Steel, also known as weathering steel, is a steel alloy developed to obviate the need for painting, and form a stable rust-like appearance if exposed to the weather. Due to the chemical composition of the alloy Cor-Ten exhibits increased resistance to atmospheric corrosion because the steel forms a protective layer on it’s surface. Widely used in the marine transportation, construction and bridge building industries Cor-Ten steel is popularly used in outdoor sculptures and architectural facings to give a weathered appearance without the loss or degradation of structure. Also available in Steel.
